Roman Roads Classroom: Economics for Everybody

/ month for 3 months

This semester-long course is a flipped-classroom approach to online learning with video lectures and live weekly recitations taught by George Harrell. Students will learn how the true science of economics is built on axioms derived from the classical study of human society, and how these axioms are then used as deductive stepping stones to form economic laws. At the center of our study lies the Word of God which rules over our interpretation of these laws. Scroll down for more information about this course!

Product Description

Economics is generally approached as an inductive science; as a boring, mathematical dissection of past events. However, economics properly understood is a fascinating examination of human actions, and the cause and effects that these actions have on each other as we use them to form society. Students will learn how the true science of economics is built on axioms derived from the classical study of human society, and how these axioms are then used as deductive stepping stones to form economic laws. At the center of our study lies the Word of God which rules over our interpretation of these laws. It is impossible to discuss economics apart from its connections with politics, sociology, philosophy, and theology. We will study various competing forms of economic schools of thought, as well as the effect that their application has had on all these aspects of life. The goal of this course then is to understand the logic of economics, and how it applies in our daily lives on both the micro and macro scale, and how this fits within Scripture.

WHAT IS A “FLIPPED CLASSROOM”?
A “flipped classroom” is one in which the lecture typically given in class is watched at home, and the time normally spent doing homework occurs live in class. In other words, you watch the recorded lecture on your own, followed by answering questions. You then interact with the teacher and other students online going over the lesson, followed by previewing the next lesson.

How this looks will differ somewhat by subject. For Economics, this means an Oxford style “recitation,” or small group discussion once per week. Since this is an online school, these meetings happen live via video conference.

What is a Flipped Classroom? James Nance explains:

AGE OF STUDENT:
