Mastering the Academic Essay with Scott Postma – Summer 2019


Mastering the Academic Essay is an eight-week course for junior high and high school students who desire to write academic papers successfully. The class meets two days per week (Tuesday & Thursday) from 9:00 – 9:50 am (Jul 2 – Aug 22). Students who satisfactorily complete the course will acquire the necessary tools for writing an effective thesis statement, discovering and organizing their arguments, and presenting their thoughts with integrity, clarity, precision, and beauty. They will further learn how to cite their work, properly, using the Turabian/Chicago citation style. This course is for any student who wants to slay writing anxiety, think wisely about their topic, and write persuasively for cultural engagement and
academic success.

Class times: Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 – 9:50 AM PT

Required Materials: The Office of Assertion by Scott F. Crider
Recommended Materials: A Manual for Writers by Kate Turabian Ninth Edition (PDF excerpts of required material will be supplied by the teacher)
