Why Readers, Scientifically, Are The Best People To Fall In Love With

by Daniel Foucachon on Posted on

I recently read an article about why readers, scientifically speaking, are the best people to fall in love with. I agree! I married a woman who loves to read, and loves to learn! She read all the right books while growing up! (Incidentally, she took Wes Callihan’s Great Books courses online in high school). The article points to several benefits that reading will bring a reader. It enables them to speak to someone in a meaningful way. It allows a person to understand other people; it teaches the art of empathy. And it gives wisdom that years of actual experience … Continue Reading “Why Readers, Scientifically, Are The Best People To Fall In Love With”

Introducing Kepler Education

by Daniel Foucachon on Posted on

Dear friends of Roman Roads Press, For the last five years we have offered classes through Roman Roads Classroom, a small online live-class service where we used the flipped-classroom model of lecture + live recitation. Many of you used this service and expressed how much you loved the model. Additionally, teachers loved this model. A Christmas Poem

by Christiana Hale on Posted on

A Christmas Poem, by Christian Hale. For countless years, the Dragon roared And men would fight in vain with sword. Though many sought with might to slay, The Serpent’s strength grew day by day. In darker days, this Dragon’s breath Enslaved our fathers unto death. They thought to worship stones and beasts While on their souls the Dragon feasts. A Greater Might, a Hero bold, Came thundering down the halls of gold. He came with shouts as soft as cries. He came with virgin’s lullabies. He fought with weapons yet unknown. The Dragon scoffed to see this Foe. A MAN? … Continue Reading “A Christmas Poem”

Difficult Relatives on Thanksgiving

by Daniel Foucachon on Posted on

Dear Friends, Thanksgiving is a holiday dedicated to gratitude, but often involves people that are difficult to be grateful for. That aunt or uncle of a radically different political persuasion, that sibling you haven’t seen for an awkward amount of time. And if it weren’t for Thanksgiving, you might not naturally gather with these people. Meals, especially feasts, bring people together. Think of how many stories or movies end at the table. History will culminate with the Supper of the Lamb. And we fellowship over a meal in the Eucharist. And yet how do we deal with difficult relationships in the … Continue Reading “Difficult Relatives on Thanksgiving”

Old Western Culture in the 18th year of homeschooling (a review)

by Daniel Foucachon on Posted on

It is always a pleasure to hear how our courses have blessed homeschool parents. I wanted to share this review from a veteran homeschool mom who has kids with very different learning styles. My family is in the process of wrapping up our 18th year of homeschooling. I was blessed to stumble upon the Old Western Culture series this year. I had heard the name Wes Callihan before, but for the past few years, I was surprisingly content with my repertoire of homeschooling materials. However, my mildly autistic 15 year old son presented me with a new challenge: how to … Continue Reading “Old Western Culture in the 18th year of homeschooling (a review)”

St. Patrick’s Confession

by Daniel Foucachon on Posted on

“There is no other God, nor will there ever be, nor was there ever, except God the Father. He is the one who was not begotten, the one without a beginning, the one from whom all beginnings come, the one who holds all things in being – this is our teaching. And his son, Jesus Christ, whom we testify has always been, since before the beginning of this age, with the father in a spiritual way. He was begotten in an indescribable way before every beginning. Everything we can see, and everything beyond our sight, was made through him. He … Continue Reading “St. Patrick’s Confession”
